Lionel Messi's buddy adventure in America looks set to continue with another former teammate on his way.

The 2022 World Cup-winning captain's move to Inter Miami has brought floods of new fans to Major League Soccer, and also some old friends.

Joining in the summer on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, the Argentine got off to a flying start with 11 goals in 14 games, but Miami finished well short of the play-offs due to a poor season.

That was despite Messi securing the addition of two of his 2014/15 treble winning teammates from Barcelona, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

A third has since signed up, with Luis Suarez moving from Gremio to the US, and now another former teammate looks set to also make the trip up from South America.

Marcos Rojo is Miami's latest target, with the team desperately searching for defensive upgrades.

The former Manchester United man is currently at Boca Juniors after leaving England in 2021, but is understood to have been singled-out by former Argentina manager Tato Martino, who coaches David Beckham's Miami.

Rojo also has a strong relationship with Messi according to Ole, with the pair playing together 45 times at international level.

The 33-year-old, who now plays primarily as a centre-back, has a tough decision to make, having only just fulfilled his dream of playing for Boca, the team he's supported since childhood.

On top of that, the Argentine giants have recently elected club legend Juan Roman Riquelme as their new president, with Rojo publicly backing his hero's campaign, and he was the club's only player to show support to a candidate.

Martino is insistent on the former United man, though, and he may have to decide soon with Boca's pre-season starting on January 2.

During Rojo's time in England, he won an FA Cup, League Cup, Community Shield and Europa League with United, although he may be best remembered by some for his 28 red cards in 121 games.
