Genoa striker Mattias Destro scored a wonder goal while bizarrely carrying a bottle of water in the club's latest domestic fixture against Verona.

The 30-year-old then sold an opposition defender a brilliant dummy to advance into the penalty area before expertly dinking the ball over the goalkeeper, sparking wild scenes of celebration among the home supporters.

Destro explained why he had the bottle in his hand when speaking to reporters post-match, admitting he didn't know how to dispose of it after stopping for a brief break.

"At the end of the match I was so tired, I was cramping up," he said. "I was drinking water and didn't know where to throw the bottle so I decided to just keep it."
