Ferguson's classy approach to transfers as details of Man Utd pursuit emerge

Javier Hernandez has opened up on the reception Sir Alex Ferguson offered him - leaving him willing to do anything for the legendary manager.

The Mexican was signed for £7million from Chivas in 2010 and went on to make a stunning impact in his first season.

Chicharito, as he was affectionately known at Old Trafford, netted 20 times in his first season, playing a key role in Ferguson's penultimate Premier League title triumph.

In total he made 157 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 59 times and the LA Galaxy star has opened up on the amazing treatment he received from his former boss.

"It was great, it was amazing and then when I arrived to the presentation he wanted to have dinner with myself and my family," he told the club's official podcast.

"The way he presented himself and the way he treated you like a human. The way he treated my family, for me it was like, yeah I will kill myself for this manager inside the pitch, for sure. For sure!

"If he treats my family that way, man, I will vomit after every game if it helps him to achieve in games and championships. He was an amazing man. It's hard to believe."

However, for all of the hospitality once he was in Manchester, their very first interaction was a little different with the Scot's strong Glaswegian exit making it difficult for the young striker.

"The coach Sir Alex Ferguson came and it was one of the most complicated calls!" the 33-year-old recalled.

"His Scottish accent, man… and in that moment I wasn't aware of that language, so it was so complicated to understand, so you could see me pushing the phone.

"You have to imagine, he was speaking from Manchester and I was in Guadalajara. It was the first time we'd spoken.

"Imagine the connection, too, so I was never in my life so focused on a phone call!"

In 2016, Chicharito revealed that his old boss would still regularly text him on the eve of big games, such was their close bond.

And following Sir Alex's brain haemorrhage in 2018, he offered a touching tribute: "He's been fundamental to my life and my career. He gave me the chance to be here in Europe and to play with one of the best teams in the world. He's like a father.

"He treated me well and welcomed me in a very good way and I thought we spent three very good years together at Manchester United."
