Ferguson makes Savage's son his first signing at Forest Green as Man United starlet joins

Everton legend Duncan Ferguson has made an eye-catching first signing as Forest Green Rovers manager by bringing in Charlie Savage.

Savage, the son of ex-Blackburn and Leicester City star Robbie, has arrived on a loan deal from Manchester United until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old is highly-rated by the Red Devils and has even made one senior appearance for the club in the 1-1 Champions League draw against Young Boys in December.

He was also on the bench under Ralf Rangnick for the Red Devils' final game of last season, a 1-0 loss at Crystal Palace, before being selected by Erik ten Hag to join the first team on the pre-season tour of Australia and Asia.

Like his father, Savage is a central midfielder who loves to put himself about and isn't afraid to get stuck into his opponents.

He does, however, have notable technical quality and is renowned for his ability to pass the ball.

With Ferguson, a player renowned for roughing up his opponents during his playing days, Savage could be the perfect signing following his appointment on Friday.

Speaking after joining the club, Savage said: I'm buzzing to be here.

"As soon as I found out Forest Green were interested, I just wanted to get down and get started.

"I loved the sound of the club - and I actually came down here last season for work experience under Rob Edwards. I know the people and the place really well."

Savage and Ferguson have real work to do with Forest Green currently sitting bottom of League One with just five wins in 28 games this term.
