Arsenal starlet Charlie Patino eyed up by Barcelona in shock free transfer swoop

The 19-year-old, who has starred on loan at Blackpool this season, is in the final year of his contract at the Emirates Stadium.

It has been claimed the Gunners have the option to activate a two-year extension, but talks with the teen are yet to take place.

Last month it was said how a number of Premier League outfits, as well as teams from across Europe, are keeping tabs on his situation.

And according to Calciomercato, Barcelona are one of the clubs closely monitoring the midfielder ahead of a possible 2023 swoop.

They state that Patino, who is eligible to represent Spain as he holds a Spanish passport thanks to his dad, idolised Barca legend Andres Iniesta growing up.

The Blaugrana would be able to speak to Patino from January over a free transfer.

But it is believed that Patino is still keen to extend his stay in north London.

Patino made two appearances under Mikel Arteta last season where he scored on his debut in the 5-1 victory against Sunderland in the Carabao Cup.

He then started in the FA Cup third round defeat to Nottingham Forest, but struggled to assert himself before being hauled off in the 69th minute.

However, he has impressed in the Championship this term at Bloomfield Road where he has been one of their only shining lights.

Despite the Seasiders sitting in 23rd spot, the England youth international has chipped in with two goals and as many assists from 16 matches.

Speaking last month, Blackpool boss Michael Appleton said the youngster is one of the best players he has ever worked with.

He said: "He can deal with the ball in any area of the pitch, go past people left side, right side.

"I said when he came to the club that he's as good as anyone I've seen dealing with the ball and with good movement of the ball.

"He can play as a six, as a ten and as an eight. He's got a really, really good future ahead of him."
