Andy Carroll's car wrecked in terrifying head-on crash as police attend scene

Andy Carroll's car was written off car in a terrifying head-on collision with another vehicle.

The former England international's Mercedes GLS SUV, worth £130,000, crashed into a Ford Fiesta, resulting in the latter car being shunted 30 yards up the road. As first reported by The Sun, eye-witnesses on the residential street in Romford, East London where the crash occurred recounted that Carroll looked "dazed and in utter shock" as he emerged from his vehicle.

The 33-year-old, who has played for the likes of Newcastle, Liverpool and West Ham, then went to check on the three people who were in the Ford. The serious collision left Carroll's Mercedes with damage to the side panels and bumper, while one of the front wheels came off.

Police attended the scene and witnesses said they used a breathalyser on Carroll and the driver of the Ford, with no arrests made. The striker and the friend he was with were not injured in the collision, but a man in his 50s who had been in the other car was taken to hospital after feeling pain in his chest. The report claims police were investigating and Carroll has been approached for comment.

The crash occurred on Saturday afternoon and an eye-witness claimed: "It was lucky no one died. The Fiesta and Mercedes collided head-on and another vehicle was hit in the carnage. It was a freak accident."

Another added: "I heard the most awful bang. I saw Andy Carroll emerge from his vehicle. He was wandering around in a daze. Andy was in shock but said to me, 'What do you think of my car?' I replied, 'I think it's a write-off, mate'."

Carroll is without a club after leaving West Brom at the end of last season following a short-term loan at the Hawthorns. He scored two goals in nine appearances for the Three Lions between 2010 and 2012, including the opening goal of the group-stage clash with Sweden at Euro 2012. He was previously the most expensive British player in history after Liverpool paid £35million to sign him from Newcastle in January 2011.

Fresh reports claim Carroll is closing in on a return to Reading, where he spent the first half of the 2021/22 campaign, scoring two goals in eight Championship appearances. He penned a classy message to the Royals at the time of his mid-season departure, writing on Twitter : "A thank you to everyone at @ReadingFC for making myself and my family feel so welcome. I'm grateful for being given the opportunity to play under a fantastic manager, great group of lads, and most of all at a wonderful football club. I'm wishing you every success, keep rowing."
