Teddy Sheringham can't wait to wind up Laura Woods if Man City overtake Arsenal

The Gunners currently sit top of the table as they lead defending champions Manchester City by eight points with ten games remaining.

There is now genuine fear from rival supporters that Mikel Arteta could end Arsenal's 19-year wait for a league championship.

And Sheringham, who banged in 11 goals against Arsenal during his playing career, is desperate for that not to happen.

The 56-year-old enjoyed many battles with Arsenal for the top-flight title during his time with Manchester United, while he also scored in three north London derbies.

Such is Sheringham's desperation for Arteta's side not to lift aloft the Premier League trophy, he has revealed he will phone talkSPORT host and Arsenal fan Woods constantly to revel in her misery if City manage to overtake them.

Speaking on Drive about the title race, Sheringham said: "If Manchester City, no sorry, when Manchester City over take Arsenal at the end of the season, can I come back on air?

"We can just phone Laura Woods and just ask her how her weekend is?"

talkSPORT host and United fan Andy Goldstein quipped: "We can do it for the whole weekend."

To which Sheringham replied: "Can we? Just keeping phoning her over and over again?

"Please don't put the phone down, I want to have another chat with you. That would be great."

Pressed whether he believes that phone call will be made to Woods, Sheringham stated: "I really hope it does.

"I think Manchester City's next game against Liverpool is a big one."

And Sheringham has also urged Arsenal to make a move for West Ham skipper Declan Rice as he would make them an instantly 'better team'.

The England international has been heavily linked with a summer switch to the Emirates, with the player believed to be keen on a move.

Commenting on where he could end up, Sheringham said: "He can go anywhere, wherever he goes he's going to make that team a better team.

"Maybe Casemiro is in that role at Manchester United so perhaps they don't need him, but he would definitely make Arsenal a better team.

"I don't like to say it but they're already good enough this season, and I don't want to see Declan go there because he will make them a better team. He could walk into any team."
