Mikel Arteta sends message to Solskjaer as he deals with Man Utd pressure

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that the only way to ease the increasing scrutiny regarding his position is to get results - and fast.

Solskjaer's position as Manchester United manager is a perilous one, having been heavily linked with the sack following the 5-0 defeat to Liverpool last weekend.

According to reports, Old Trafford bosses gave serious consideration to replacing the Norwegian, but ultimately decided to give him more time.

The Red Devils have failed to win any of their last four Premier League games and Solskjaer knows only a win over Tottenham will help alleviate some of the pressure regarding his future.

Arteta knowns a thing or two about changing the narrative, after navigating some choppy waters at the beginning of the campaign.

The Gunners started the season by losing three straight games, conceding nine times and failing to score in the process.

But since then, Arteta has guided Arsenal to six games unbeaten in the Premier League, knowing a win over Leicester this weekend will see them shoot up the table even further.

And asked about his Manchester United's counterpart predicament, the Spaniard said that while results are poor, it is to be expected.

"It's always about the results. We all know that and the rest it doesn't really matter," Arteta explained in his pre-match press conference.

"When you are having difficulty getting results it's the same for everybody. It's not a nice moment for those who are going through that."

The United boss will come up against another manager under-fire on Saturday, with Nuno Espirito Santo desperate for a result to keep the wolves from his door.

Like Solskjaer, the Spurs head coach has come in for flack this term although his side find themselves just two points behind the top four.

But a pragmatic and defensive style, twinned with inconsistent results, means the Portuguese is already under pressure despite only taking on the position at the start of the season.

Meanwhile, Solskjaer is hoping to be handed a major boost for the trip to the capital, with Raphael Varane closing in on a return.

The summer signing picked up an injury whilst on international duty with France earlier this month.

In the three games Varane has missed with injury, United conceded a staggering 11 times, but he has returned to full training and could be in contention to start alongside the struggling Harry Maguire.
