Ex-Man United and Chelsea chief executive in 'positive' Everton takeover talks

talkSPORT understands the discussions at this stage are 'positive' and ongoing.

As first reported by Daily Telegraph, the consortium interested in buying the Toffees include Minneapolis-based Talon Real Estate Maciek Kaminski and American businessman John Thornton.

They are being advised by investment specialist Michael Klein and US law firm Weil, Gotshal and Manges.

Current Everton owner Moshiri has pumped more than £600million into the club since first buying shares in 2016.

He has committed to building a new £500m stadium within the city of Liverpool's Bramley-Moore Dock, which is currently under construction, while they have recorded combined losses of £372m over three seasons.

Giving an update on Tuesday morning, talkSPORT's Jim White said: "Now we hear that former Manchester United and Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon is part of a consortium in early talks to buy Everton from Farhad Moshiri.

"Let me tell you what I know on this. It is our understanding that, yes, talks are ongoing between Peter Kenyon's consortium and representatives of Farhad Moshiri and those talks at this stage are 'positive'.

"I got through to Farhad Moshiri, I tried to contact him, and it was a straight 'no comment' in regards to this story.

"Those close to Farhad emphasised this morning that we have to remember he is invested in the city and that is reflected in the £500m investment into this new Everton stadium and that should not be lost on us."

Kenyon has advised a number of clubs and his company, Opto Advisers, were involved in the takeovers of Paris Saint-Germain and Wolves. He was also involved in a bid to buy Newcastle.

Giving his reaction, former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan said: "Peter Kenyon is the ultimate tyre kicker. He did this with Newcastle and I fail to understand why talks, at this stage, have got into the media.

"The last time he was trying to do it with Newcastle he was trying to raise crowdfunding to buy the football club.

"He is connected and will have a lot of people around him who have money and be interested in buying football clubs.

"Whether Everton are in play, that's for Farhad Moshiri to determine.

"Peter finds out where a deal can be done and then finds out who can fund it for him.

"I'm sure they are [positive, the talks], as if someone comes knocking on your door to buy your house and you can charge them twice the price, then talks will be positive until someone has to write a cheque.

"For Everton, it doesn't necessarily mean good or bad news because no one can argue that Moshiri isn't willing to back the decisions he makes. The challenge is getting him to make the right decisions.

"If Frank Lampard is the right decision then, we will see."
