TV blackout explained
The blackout was first implemented in the 1960s after then-Burnley chairman Bob Lord cited concerns over lower-league attendances.
Lord feared too many fans would simply watch top-flight matches on television rather than watch their local team in the flesh.
In response, football bosses stipulated no games are allowed to be aired live between 2:45pm and 5:15pm in the UK.

What time and channel is Man Utd vs Newcastle on?
The match will kick-off at 3pm and it will not be broadcast live in the UK.
This is due to the long-standing 3pm kick-off blackout rule, where matches taking place between 2:45pm and 5:15pm cannot be shown.
It was lifted last due season to matches being played behind closed doors but is now back in place and aims to protect attendances up and down the pyramid by encouraging fans to go and watch a match in a stadium.
