Casemiro like having Roy Keane in the side and Man United have been missing him for years

That is the opinion of former Old Trafford striker Teddy Sheringham, who spoke to Laura Woods and Ally McCoist on talkSPORT's Breakfast show.

Casemiro was sent off for United during their 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday for grabbing Will Hughes by the throat.

It means the Brazil international will miss the next three games in the Premier League - a double-header against Leeds United and an Old Trafford clash against Leicester.

However, the former Real Madrid star will return ahead of the Carabao Cup final at the end of the month against Newcastle.

And Sheringham, who played at United when Keane was captain, believes the midfielder is exactly what United have needed.

He told talkSPORT: "All I will say about Casemiro is I think he is like a Roy Keane that they have been missing for the last eight years.

"That midfield general that has that desire and understanding of the game of when to do what to make sure that his team are performing to the best of their capabilities."

Sheringham scored 46 times in 153 appearances for United, winning three Premier League titles with Keane marshalling the dressing room.

The ex-United skipper was also partial to the odd red card here and there during his career, picking up a joint-record 13 during his 16 years in British football while this was Casemiro's first since moving to Old Trafford last summer.

Sheringham added: "He's not just worried about himself, I do like him. Perhaps he thought he had to enforce something at the time [of his red card]."

However, not everyone was impressed by Casemiro's actions, with talkSPORT host's Gabriel Agbonlahor saying he should have been arrested.

"Casemiro thought he was Brock Lesnar back in the UFC," he said.

"The way he was strangling Will Hughes, he should be arrested for that. Kids are watching that later on, on Match of the Day. Seeing Casemiro strangling an opponent.

"This isn't ice hockey in America where they have a scrap during the game. This is football, we don't want to see that.

"So Casemiro needs to be disciplined by Manchester United."
