Best XI of Premier League stars still available weeks after transfer window shut

The transfer window may have shut in the Premier League - but a host of unattached top-flight stars are still available.

And even though the majority of English clubs spent big in the summer, the chances are that most will be open to strengthening their squad in the New Year once the transfer window officially reopens.

However, there are a number of players with top-flight experience who are on the market after failing to get fixed up before the September 1 deadline - including two former Premier League title winners.

Here, Mirror Football takes a look at some of the former top-flight pros who are still on the lookout for their next club...

Goalkeeper

Former West Ham shot-stopper David Martin didn't officially make his top-flight debut until he was 33, but the veteran goalkeeper proved across a handful of appearances for the Hammers that he is a more than capable deputy.

Now aged 36, Martin is unlikely to be at the top of many team's wishlist, but the former MK Dons and Millwall man could still be reliable back-up option.

Defenders

Danny Rose has clocked up over 260 top-flight appearances for the likes of Tottenham, Sunderland and Watford but is a free agent after tearing up the final year of his Watford deal.

In the heart of defence, ex-Manchester City duo Eliaquim Mangala and Jason Denayer are both available. Mangala was part of the City side that won the Premier League title under Pep Guardiola while Denayer has impressed for Lyon in recent years.

Former Southampton and Everton right-back Cuco Martina has had spells at Feyenoord and Go Ahead Eagles since leaving the Premier League and is currently unattached.

Midfielders

Utility man Fabian Delph is currently unattached after running down his deal at Everton, while former Burnley and Brighton playmaker Dale Stephens is looking for another club after leaving Turf Moor.

Former Tottenham reject Adel Taarabt made his name at QPR in the top-flight under Neil Warnock, where he netted seven times in 58 appearances.

After stints on loan at Fulham and AC Milan, Taarabt has been plying his trade in Portugal in recent years but is now a free agent after his spell at Benfica came to an end.

Forwards

Burnley feature prominently in attack too with Aaron Lennon and Matej Vydra both on the market.

Lennon has previously and Everton in the top-flight but was unable to keep Burnley up last year, while Vydra managed two league goals for the Clarets before he was sidelined with a serious knee injury.

Hatem Ben Arfa is another player who has lit up the Premier League previously but does not currently have a club.

The controversial Frenchman - who was a huge fan favourite at St.James' Park during his time on Tyneside and was pursued by bigger clubs throughout Europe - has spent the last six years playing in Ligue 1 after leaving the Magpies.

But after leaving Lille this summer, the 35-year-old could be move further afield in a bid to reignite his career.
