Prior to Euro 2016, Chelsea's out on loan centre-back Ethan Ampadu produced a crunching challenge on the Real Madrid forward that left him in a heap and at risk of missing the tournament.
15-years-old at the time, Ampadu was given the opportunity to train with the team in an attempt to help the youngster settle into the squad.
Two weeks before the European Championships, in a training camp in Portugal, Bale in typical fashion knocked the ball past the defender.
Credit to Ampadu though as he kept up with Bale and produced a superb sliding tackle in the penalty area.
What caused concern though was the nature of the challenge that left Bale in a heap. Thankfully for the squad and the entire nation, Bale got up gingerly and smiled.
Including the six appearances he made in Euro 2016 where he scored three times, Bale is set to play his 100th match for Wales against Belarus.
It's an extremely proud moment for the Bale who will become the second Welshman after Chris Gunter to reach the three-figure milestone.
"It has been an incredible journey and one that started very young," said Bale, Wales' record scorer with 36 goals.
"To get 100 caps will personally be an incredible achievement and one you never think about when you start out.
"We have been through the lows when I first joined to grow Welsh football, to try to put it on the right path and inspire the generations coming through.
"I think even now the youngsters have watched us come from a lower-ranked team to a higher-ranked team. It has given them a drive to push to get better as we have been that inspiration through the years.
"We have all bought into it - the fans, the team, the staff - and every manager has bought in to the same philosophy that we want to push Welsh football as far as we can.
"We have done a great job and hopefully there is more to come."
