Ole Gunnar Solskjaer blasted over "sackable offence" in Man Utd training

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 's efforts to convert Jadon Sancho from a winger into a wing-back for Manchester United is "almost a sackable offence", according to Danny Mills.

Sancho has made a slow start to his United career, failing to contribute a goal or an assist in 13 appearances across all competitions since his £73million move from Borussia Dortmund.

The 21-year-old was expected to hit the ground running at his new side, but has found himself stranded on the substitutes' bench.

Sancho scored 50 times and registered 64 assists in 134 games for Dortmund and has been a key player for Gareth Southgate with England over the past few years.

However, his struggles with United have seen him dropped from the England squad for the current international break.

According to The Athletic, Solskjaer has reacted to the dip in form by trying Sancho out as a right wing-back in training.

United have played a 3-4-1-2 formation in the past three matches after being thrashed 5-0 by Liverpool and the report states Solskjaer may field Sancho at right wing-back ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka against certain opponents.

Former England right-back Mills has branded the move "ridiculous" and believes Solskjaer should develop a system which suits his big-money summer signing instead of trying to force square pegs into round holes.

"Good luck turning him into a wing-back," Mills told Football Insider.

"He didn't play for England too much in the Euros because I don't think he was reliable enough to track back and do the defensive side of it. Dortmund never played him there.

"You bought a winger who is going to create chances and score goals. Suddenly you're going to play him at wing-back in an unbelievably leaky defence. It's like, really?

"That's almost a sackable offence in itself.

"Shall we put Cristiano Ronaldo at centre-half because he can head a ball? I think Ronaldo can head the ball better than the centre-halves at the moment so should they put him at centre-half?

"It's more than a little bit ridiculous."

Sancho has played 566 minutes in a United shirt without contributing a goal or assist, but the club's coaches are reportedly not concerned.

The Athletic states the youngster has been 'very attentive to his early issues and is working hard to get up to speed' behind the scenes.

Southgate said last week Sancho and Jesse Lingard's absence from his England squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Albania and San Marino was simply down to a lack of game time.

"With these two lads, they've got great competition for places in the positions they play," he said.

"Both of those boys when I spoke with them totally understood that. They get it. They know that at the moment they've got to get playing for their club and playing well and then England is a bonus on the top.

"But they're both players that have done well for us and I'm sure they'll be back with us."
