Dairon Asprilla scored an incredible overhead kick from outside the 18-yard box after a major goalkeeping blunder in the MLS fixture between the Portland Timbers and the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday.

The Timbers moved up to fourth in the Western Conference standings with a 2-0 home win, thanks to goals from Diego Chara and Asprilla.

Asprilla's stunning second-half effort will be a contender for goal of the season, and the 29-year-old is now among the top scorers in MLS with 10 goals from 32 matches.

Asprilla's moment of magic

Asprilla raced onto a through ball early in the second half only to see Earthquakes goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski come out to beat him to it.

However, the American shot-stopper fumbled the ball and Asprilla picked up possession with his back to goal just outside the box.

The Colombian could have tried to find a teammate with a cross, but instead flicked the ball up in the air before executing a perfect bicycle kick that looped over Marcinkowski and into the net.

Asprilla's record for Timbers

Asprilla initially joined Timbers back in 2015 and has since racked up 151 appearances. The experienced forward has scored 22 goals and also has 14 assists to his name, having established himself as a key member of the squad.

He will likely have the chance to add to his tally when Timbers travel to Real Salt Lake on November 4.
