Mbappe breaks silence after history-making World Cup final performance

Mbappe put on a historic showing in defeat to Argentina, becoming just the second player after Sir Geoff Hurst to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final.

It was incredibly in vain, though, with Argentina emerging as winners after the 3-3 tie went to penalties.

Mbappe had barely been seen in the opening 80 minutes of the match as he was successfully shut out by an Argentine side that assailed to a 2-0 lead, but he then turned the match on its head.

First blasting in from the spot despite penalty expert Emi Martinez picking the right way, the Paris Saint-Germain superstar made it two 97 seconds later.

Firing in a sublime first-time volley, Mbappe levelled the score for extra time, and again had to repeat his heroics after club teammate Lionel Messi made it 3-2.

And on top of all that, Mbappe again bagged from the spot in the shoot-out, giving his all in an astounding display.

Sadly for the 23-year-old, he only collected the Golden Boot once the game ended, instead of the World Cup trophy, but he still made history.

Mbappe now has four World Cup final goals, more than any player in history, and for once, the losers will certainly be remembered.

But for Mbappe, none of that is consolation, as he later said on social media it's now about 2026.

'Nous reviendrons' he posted, which translates to 'we will return' and it would take a brave person to doubt him.
