Mbappe became the first male player since 1966 to net a trio of goals in football's ultimate game, following England legend Hurst's achievements when he did the same in the final against West Germany.

The Paris Saint-Germain star scored two penalties and a stunning first-time volley to force the tie to go to a shoot-out, where France were ultimately defeated as Argentina claimed their third World Cup.
Despite that, Hurst was gracious in having a male player finally join him in the illustrious - and very short - list of World Cup final hat-trick heroes, 56 years after England's triumph 56 years ago.
He tweeted out during the game, before it went to penalties: "Many congratulations to Mbappe, whatever happens. I've had a great run!"

talkSPORT's Ally McCoist, however, was cheekier with his comments as he watched the game on commentary duty for ITV.
The cheeky Rangers and Scotland legend said: "Mbappe is the first player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final when every one was over the line!"
Of course, referring to Hurst's controversial goal from 1966, which is often a topic of debate.

Mbappe had a brilliant World Cup and, despite being on the losing side, his eight goals led to him winning the tournament's Golden Boot.
It was the most goals by a player in a single World Cup since 2002, when Brazil's Ronaldo managed the same number on his way to tournament glory in Korea/Japan that year.
Mbappe also became the youngest player to reach ten World Cup goals and is already level with Pele's tally of 12 overall, with the all-time record of 16 in sight.
And he's only 23! You can be sure there is more to come.
