Liverpool target Tchouameni warned about his weakness amid "important choice"

mirror.co.uk, 7 June 2022, 09:19
The Monaco midfielder has been in action for his country and France boss Didier Deschamps has offered up some words of wisdom for the young star to use moving forward

Aurelian Tchouameni is the latest stunning talent to come off the production line in France and is very much a player in-demand among some of the biggest clubs around.

However, the Monaco midfielder is still only 22 years of age and as a result still has plenty to learn on his journey to becoming the most well-rounded player he can possibly be - as pointed out by national team manager Didier Deschamps.

Tchouameni's fine form for Monaco has led to call-ups for Les Bleus' senior side, where he has for the most part impressed and shown he is more than capable of competing on the biggest stage. With that being said, France's most recent fixture away at Croatia for the UEFA Nations League saw Tchouameni guilty of the odd mistake which did not evade the attention of his boss.

Speaking after the 1-1 draw in Split, Deschamps reflected on Tchouameni's performance. "I found he performed better in the month of March. He's not a robot," the France boss said. "He is solid, consistent but with small ball losses that he can avoid. It represents young people growing. He also has an important choice to make right now for his career."

Being sloppy in possession is not something that will be permitted for very long at whichever club he eventually ends up at, nor will it help his chances of making France's World Cup squad later this year. Deschamps closing remarks were particularly eye-opening, given the amount of sides interested in Tchouameni, he certainly has a huge decision to make surrounding the next step of his career.

The France international has been the subject of interest from the likes of Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain. Despite this, Spanish titans Real Madrid seem to be the most likely destination as things stand.

The relentless speculation lingering over his head has not been enough to distract Tchouameni from the task at hand. During an interview with French TV channel TeleFoot, the midfielder said: "I'm not troubled by that (rumours), because it's a position I've always wanted to be in.

"As long as I'm followed by the top clubs, that means I'm doing good things." He was then pressed for comment over whether he has made any decision over his future, to which he replied: "Not yet."

The Liverpool ECHO claim that the Reds were actually contacted by Tchouameni's representatives to inform Jurgen Klopp and co. that their transfer target has his heart set on a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, though there is yet to be any confirmation from either club nor player.
