James McClean slams 'pathetic creatures' as he reveals terrifying damaged car

McClean walked away with minor injuries after crashing his car on the way to training earlier this week.

Fog and ice caused McClean to lose control of his black Audi and go off road near Wrexham Golf Club.

The winger was cut and bruised but still started in a League One clash against Birmingham City on Thursday.

Wrexham carried out medical tests and cleared McClean to captain the former non-League side.

Following the 1-1 draw, the 35-year-old revealed his damaged car alongside a statement on Instagram.

He posted: "Now that the game is out of the way, to address yesterday. An experience I never wish to encounter again, I am blessed and thankful I managed to walk away with minor injuries and return home to my family.

"Though much to the disappointment of some smelly scruffy pathetic creatures that messaged my wife online, thank you for the messages of support."

In a statement, North Wales Police said: "Shortly before 9am this morning (Wednesday, January 22), we received a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision on the A534 in Wrexham, near to Wrexham Golf Club."

"Officers and colleagues from the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident, which had blocked the road until the vehicle was recovered shortly before 10am. 'No serious injuries were reported from the scene."

Social media platforms are frequent places for the criticism and hate of McClean as shown by reactions from the match against Shrewsbury Town last week.

Full-time scenes at New Meadow showed the ex-Sunderland star trying to confront the home supporters, before being stopped by security.

He subsequently took to his Instagram story where he fired a shocking insult as he responded to the viral clip.

The former Stoke man said: "In fairness if I was born and raised in Shrewsbury, I'd probably be this angry as well cause it's an absolute cesspit full of inbreds."

The 35-year-old has developed a reputation as one of football's most prolific antagonists during his 13-year career in English football.

McClean is often subjected to abuse in England for his decision not to wear a poppy around Remembrance Sunday, citing the British army's actions in his native Derry.

Wrexham are next in action against Stevenage on Tuesday.

Birmingham continue their stretch of first in League One while Wrexham are in third, five points behind.
