talkSPORT host makes X-rated Arsenal bet after loss to Chelsea

talksport.com, 28 January 2025, 18:51
Shebahn Aherne and Ruesha Littlejohn have agreed to an X-rated bet following Arsenal's latest Women's Super League defeat.

The Gunners were beaten by league leaders Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Guro Reiten's penalty proved to be the only goal of a match which saw Katie McCabe sent off for the visitors.

The result leaves Arsenal ten points adrift of their London rivals in fourth place, whilst Chelsea maintained their unbeaten start to the season.

Sonia Bompastor's side have dropped just two points from their opening 12 matches in the league this season.

As a result, they sit seven points clear at the league's summit with less than half the campaign remaining.

However, the defeat for Arsenal saw Aherne and Littlejohn agree that their title hopes this term are over.

The talkSPORT co-hosts discussed what would constitute success for the Gunners this season on The Kickback.

Littlejohn explained: "It's not the end of the world right now for Arsenal but right now the players have got to get back up, get to it. Obviously there's going to be a wee reshuffling in place but…"

Aherne added: "Got to win the Champions League, that has to be like."

Arsenal topped their Women's Champions League group before Christmas to book a spot in the quarter-finals as one of eight seeded clubs.

Former Gunners midfielder Littlejohn continued: "Again, I just don't think they're good enough to go that far. I don't see them winning the Champions League.

"Within the changing room I'm sure you've got to have belief in the dressing room or else what's the point in taking part in certain competitions but they're not good enough to go all the way in the Champions League unless they go right lets sack the league off and surrender every other game and lets focus on the Champions League but it doesn't work like that."

Aherne then asked: "Would success this season for Arsenal be retaining the Conti Cup again?"

Arsenal face Manchester City in the semi-finals next month as they bid to win the cup for a record-extending eighth time.

Littlejohn dismissed the idea that winning the competition would make the season a success, adding: "No, it's not success. We can all pretend that it is.

"I know when you're a player and you win a trophy you'll be buzzing but when you look at the squad and the players in that squad and the wages that the girls are all probably on now.

"If that's what they're demanding then they've got to be expecting and demanding more of themselves on the pitch and when it comes to trophies and silverware.

Martin Keown believes Arsenal must target Manchester City's defence to stay in title race - but must be wary of danger men

"They've got to do more. And I don't think any of the girls would say otherwise, I think they'd all agree. I don't think we're saying anything controversial here, I think they would all absolutely agree."

The pair then turned back to Arsenal's dwindling title hopes, even agreeing to each do a forfeit if Renee Slegers side manage to overhaul Chelsea by the end of the season.

Aherne exclaimed: "I mean they're not going to win the league title now, I think we can put the money on that."

Littlejohn agreed, stating: "Probably not, it's not over but let's be honest, are they winning it, no. If they do..."

Her co-host then butted in saying: 'I'll eat my face... I'll eat your face," before the Republic of Ireland international told Aherne: "If they do, you need to get an undercut."

She immediately agreed, replying: "Right, if Arsenal go on to win the league title this season, I'll get an undercut... what's an undercut?"

Littlejohn explained: "Like shaved under here," whilst gesturing to the side of her head under her hair, before adding: "You've committed to that. Let's shake on it."

Aherne agreed once more as she said: "Fine, I'll get an undercut I don't care."

Not to be left out, though, Littlejohn revealed she too would mark the feat, revealing: "Arsenal, there's your motivation right there.

"Win and we'll get Shebahn an undercut. Anyone that's got an undercut no judgement but banter if she's got one. And I'll get my tits done."

The Gunners have not won the league since securing their 15th title in 2019.

In the five seasons since, they have finished third four times as well as ending the 2021/22 campaign as runners-up to Chelsea.
