Tuchel's comments on Haaland transfer 'met with anger' by Borussia Dortmund

Thomas Tuchel's comments on his pursuit of a transfer move for Erling Haaland are thought to have been met with anger by Borussia Dortmund.

The Chelsea boss admitted he had looked into a move for Haaland in the summer window, but ultimately found it "unrealistic".

But the German also hinted that it is likely that the Premier League side will be well in the hunt to sign the Norwegian in upcoming transfer windows.

Haaland will see a £75million release clause in his contract at Dortmund be activated at the end of this season.

That release clause will pave the way for a major transfer battle between Europe's biggest clubs for the signing of one of the best strikers in Europe.

And Tuchel this week heavily hinted that Chelsea will be one of the club's involved in what is set to be next summer's biggest transfer saga.

"We talked about Erling Haaland a couple of times, including during the transfer window. But then it seemed absolutely unrealistic and not at all feasible," Tuchel told German media outlet Bild.

"We talk about him regularly, of course, because he's a fantastic player and clearly the defining figure at Dortmund, who is a big rival for us in the Champions League.

"I don't think we've been really serious about it yet, but let's see what will happen in the next few weeks."

It is no wonder that Tuchel is interested in Haaland, with the 21-year-old having become a star at Signal Iduna Park.

Since joining Dortmund in January 2020, Haaland has scored 70 goals and notched 19 assists in just 69 matches.

He has started this season in fine form, scoring 13 goals to help Dortmund to emerge as Bayern Munich's closest challengers for the Bundesliga title.

Though they are keen to sign him though, the Blues risk angering Dortmund with Tuchel's comments, potentially derailing their bid for the striker.

According to Bild, the hierarchy at the German club won't have taken too kindly to what Tuchel had to say, and could view it as 'first public attack' for the Norwegian.

Dortmund still remain hopeful that they can keep hold of Haaland beyond the end of this season, despite the interest from Europe's top clubs.

"Why shouldn't a smart boy like Erling develop the feeling, when things are going well, to stay in Dortmund? I definitely see an opportunity," Dortmund boss Marco Rose said earlier this week.

Not helping their cause though is their poor form in the Champions League, with the Black and Yellow having been hammered at Ajax on Tuesday.

Bild claim that defeat could leave Haaland concerned that he will not be able to challenge for major honours with his current club.

If he does indeed depart Germany, Chelsea will likely be joined by Manchester City, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign him.
