Piers Morgan urges Arsenal to give Arteta sack ultimatum for "bulls***" process

Piers Morgan has told his beloved Arsenal to give Mikel Arteta an ultimatum regarding his future in a damning verdict of the Spaniard's philosophy.

It's been a nightmare start to 2022 for The Gunners as they are yet to win a match, and they have been dumped out of both domestic cup competitions.

Despite a brief resurgence under Arteta, the doubts have started to kick in once more as recent results have led the Arsenal supporters to turn on the Gunners boss once more.

Morgan, a rather high-profile fan, is never shy of voicing his opinion, and the former Good Morning Britain presenter has called Arteta's philosophy 'bulls***'.

Arteta became Arsenal boss in December 2019, and at the end of his first season the Spaniard lifted the FA Cup to get his first senior role off to a winning start.

It hasn't been the easiest of rides since then however, and Arsenal began their first season in 26 years without European football, in the worst possible way.

The Gunners made their worst ever start to a top-flight campaign in their history, but the mass £150million summer spend began to pay off as the new signings gelled.

Despite ending 2021 in fine form, their start to the new year has been a reality check for Arsenal, and Morgan has called for Arteta to be sacked should he not finish in the top four this season.

Their failure to beat Burnley at home appears to have been the final straw for Morgan, who wrote in his column for The Sun : "For all his tough guy talk and endless "trust the process" bull****, Arteta's so far been a demonstrable failure at Arsenal.

"He's been in charge for two years and 114 matches now — and has a win record of just 53 per cent, less than Wenger's, whose last decade was woeful, and Unai Emery's.

"Yes, he won the FA Cup within months of taking over (thanks to two goals by Aubameyang). But for a club like Arsenal, it's winning the Premier League and Champions League that matters and on which real success should be judged.

"In Arteta's first half-season, we finished eighth. Last season, we finished eighth again and didn't qualify for any European competition for the first time in 26 years.

"This season, despite Arteta splashing out £150million on new players, we're sixth and already out of both domestic cups.

"If we don't make the top four this season, and even that "achievement" seems such a lowly ambition for a supposed big club, then he shouldn't be given a pay rise, he should be sacked."

With Arsenal out of all competitions outside of the Premier League, the pressure is on to break into the top four with no excuses for distractions elsewhere.

The Champions League is the priority, but if Arteta fails to qualify for European football for a second successive season, the writing could be on the wall for the Gunners boss.
