Paul Pogba facing huge pay cut to leave Man Utd as Juventus set maximum wage

mirror.co.uk, 30 March 2022, 10:35
Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has been linked with a return to Juventus when his contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the current European season

Paul Pogba will see his wages fall dramatically if he leaves Manchester United for Juventus this summer, with reports in Italy suggesting the Serie A team have a maximum wage they are willing to offer the Frenchman.

The 29-year-old spent four successful years with Juve earlier in his career, winning the Scudetto in each of his seasons with the club after leaving Man Utd for the first time as a teenager. And now, having failed to win a single league title since returning to Old Trafford, he is in no rush to decide his next move.

There has been interest in Pogba from other Premier League clubs as well as Juventus, while the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have also been mentioned in connection with the World Cup winner. However, the midfielder's big-money United deal looks unlikely to be matched in Turin.

According to Calciomercato (via Football Italia ), Juventus aren't able to offer more than €10m (£8.5m) per year in wages, even though no transfer fee will be due for Pogba. That's equivalent to just over £160,000 per week - a significant drop on the £290,000 per week the France international is reported to be on at Old Trafford.

The reported maximum is in line with what Juve were reportedly prepared to offer Paulo Dybala to stay at the Allianz Stadium. Former Palermo forward Dybala is now expected to leave Turin on a free transfer at the end of the current campaign after talks broke down.

Dybala and Pogba had been teammates at Juventus for just one season, linking up in the 2015-16 campaign. The forward top-scored with 19 league goals that season as Juve won the league and Coppa Italia, with Pogba adding eight of his own.

Where will Paul Pogba be next season? Have your say in the comments section

"Nothing is decided on my future, there is nothing done," Pogba told Telefoot during the international break when quizzed over his next move. He started for France in their friendly win against Cote d'Ivoire on Friday and came off the bench on Tuesday in a victory over South Africa.

"I can decide tomorrow, as I can decide during the transfer window," he continued. "I want to come back, finish the season well. The season is not over yet, but almost because we don't have any more titles to play for.

"I want to win titles, to play for something and this year and the last few years we haven't won a title. It's sad."

After winning the League Cup and Europa League in his first season back at Manchester United, Pogba has failed to add another trophy. United haven't finished higher than second in the Premier League during his six seasons, and he could leave the club with another finish outside the top four.
