The 22-year-old has enjoyed limited game time in the first team this term, playing for just over 20 minutes on Sunday when the Citizens lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the Premier League.
McAtee is highly-rated on the blue side of Manchester but has only appeared in nine top-flight games this season, failing to start a contest.
Despite this, the Englishman has managed to have an impact on matches for the current champions, scoring against Newcastle United and Ipswich Town.
McAtee has considerable experience of regular football in the senior game courtesy of two seperate loan spells at Sheffield United between 2022 and 2024.
Man City youngster McAtee remains on Leverkusen radar?
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City will need to fight off the approaches of potential suitors for McAtee during the summer transfer window.
The report suggests that Bayer Leverkusen remain interested in securing the services of the England Under-21 international ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
It was claimed in December that the Bundesliga champions held a fondness for McAtee, who is struggling to cement a regular spot in Pep Guardiola's XI.
It is believed that Man City rejected an advance from Leverkusen for the 22-year-old during the winter transfer window, deciding to keep hold of the talent.
There is a suggestion that McAtee could be part of a double deal which sees Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz move to the Etihad in the near future.
What should McAtee do?
In the past, McAtee has expressed his desire to stay and fight for a spot in the preferred XI at Man City, following in the footsteps of Phil Foden.
However, with the Citizens targeting a big-money move for Wirtz, it is questionable whether there is a place for the Englishman at the Etihad in the future.
Scoring six goals across 19 appearances for Man City this term, McAtee is certainly ready to become a regular for a top-flight outfit next season.
