Along with his goal putting Madrid ahead over Girona, it proved to be a historic strike for Bellingham.

The 21-year-old's goal meant he had scored in five consecutive LaLiga matches - the first player to do so this season.

Unfortunately for Bellingham, his outing came to an end in the 61st minute when he was substituted off for Dani Ceballos.

Bellingham did not appear to be moving freely, prompting Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti to avoid taking any risks with his superstar.

Superstar striker Kylian Mbappe added a third for Madrid in the 62nd minute to round off a comfortable win.

Bellingham's outstanding run of goals represents a complete contrast to how he began the season for Madrid.

The midfielder failed to score in his first seven LaLiga fixtures before he finally registered his first goal of the domestic campaign against Osasuna on November 9.

It brought an end to a goal drought that had lasted 12 games and 179 days.

Goals against Leganes, Getafe and Athletic have followed, although Bellingham is yet to score in the Champions League this term.

Luckily for the midfielder, he has a chance on Tuesday to end the wait as Los Blancos travel to Europa League champions Atalanta.

Speaking in the midst of Bellingham's goal drought, Ancelotti revealed he was 'very satisfied' with the England international's work, even though it wasn't translating to goals.

"He works a lot, he's always present, he competes, he fights, he sacrifices himself," Ancelotti said in October.

"It's true he hasn't scored the goals he scored last year, but the surprise isn't this year, the surprise was last year, when he scored lots of goals which nobody expected and helped us a lot.

"The problem this year isn't that we're lacking Bellingham's goals.
