'Weirdest thing I've ever seen' - Southampton scenes leave Troy Deeney shocked

Kluivert and his Cherries teammates are having a sensational season in the Premier League.

Their 3-1 win over Southampton was pretty much a foregone conclusion from the off.

First Dango Ouattara netted after 14 minutes and then barely 120 seconds later Ryan Christie made it 2-0 to the visitors at St Mary's.

And Dutch star Kluivert, who assisted Christie's goal, was clearly jubilant as the teams went off at half-time.

The forward left former Watford striker Deeney stunned while he was on reporting duty for talkSPORT.

He was in the middle of rounding up the first-half at St Mary's when something baffling caught his eye.

Live on-air, Deeney said: "[Bournemouth] haven't even got to a point yet where it feels like they're about to take the handbrake off.

"They're experimenting that for any little ball around the corner and a one-two, they're in. And Southampton cannot keep up making these last-ditch tackles.

"I've counted five so far on my notes where it's a last-ditch tackle. If they get that wrong either, they're going through on goal 1v1 Bournemouth. Otherwise, a player's being sent off. And it just cannot happen the way that it is.

"So to sum it up and put it all into a nice ribbon, we've just seen Kluivert, a Bournemouth player, go and give his shirt to a Southampton fan at half-time.

"And everyone was cheering.

"It's one of the weirdest games of football I've ever been at in my life. I think that's what you would call, Adrian, a heads-gone."

Adrian Durham responded: "That's exactly what I was thinking as Troy was describing it.

"I can't believe what I've just heard. That's literally unbelievable. Amazing."

After half-time, Kluivert - with a fresh shirt - and his teammates carried on where they left off.

There was a consolation goal from Kamaldeen Sulemana but Marcus Tavernier then added a third to seal it.

During the second period, Aaron Ramsdale made several impressive saves to stop the scoreline getting even worse.

Kluivert has had plenty to celebrate this season, his assist against the Saints takes his tally to five for the campaign.

That's in addition to his impressive haul of 11 goals, which included hat-tricks against Newcastle and Wolves.

He's now trebled his father Patrick's Premier League goal tally.

He hit six in 25 games for Newcastle while Justin has 18 in 55.

Meanwhile, their opponents Southampton are in for a tough time as they sit bottom of the Premier League with Deeney launching an astonishing attack on their performance.

He said on GameDay Live: "They're really bad, Adrian. They are really, really bad. I'm sat here. I've got my wife and my son who came today, as we spent Valentine's day down here yesterday.

"I just said to my five-year-old son, was that any good? And he said, "Southampton are trash, Dad". That's what he said to me. So, when you think about it, a five-year-old who's not very up-to-date on football, he can't see anything that they're doing.

"And I'm sitting here as an adult who's been around and understands the game. I can't see where they win. I think they will win a game, but I can't tell you how they're going to win that game or where the goals are going to come from.

"The only two bits of positivity I can say is they've got a really good player in Tyler Dibling, and hopefully he plays a bit more.

"And [Sulemana] as well. If they give him the ball, things happen. Everybody else, with the greatest respect, is bang average.

"Ramsdale kept them in it today. I don't know why he decided to leave Arsenal to come here. Yes, he wanted to play. Yes, he's going to have a lot of shots. But do you think someone's going to take him on next year, if they go down? I don't think so.

"I think he's made a real big gamble. Yes, he looks half good, but he doesn't fill you with confidence that he can go on and kick and be in this England team, which is what he ultimately wanted to do.

"And finally, the big centre-half, Bednarek. I was running around him three years ago, and I haven't run in a year. I'd put money on it, mate, that I could run past him now.

Durham was stunned by the last comment, replying: "Wow. No disrespect to you, but that's some indictment of the ambit.

But Deeney doubled down: "No, but I'll be deadly serious. That's not to give myself a big head. I haven't ran in a year. I can run past him."

And he went even further suggesting the club have got bigger issues than just relegation.

He added: "It's remarkable. Again, when I come back to games, I remember playing here. It was like this. This place is toxic at the moment because there's a massive disconnect between the board, the ownership, the players and the fans.

"What are you here to watch? I came here to do the research. I was thinking, are we going to see a solid defensive unit? Probably not.

"Are they going to be good attacking? Probably not.

"And they kind of do a little bit of nothing all the way through the game. We had a ten-minute spell where they scored.

"When you watch the goal, it's more because Bournemouth completely took the foot off the gas, thinking this was job done.

"And then as soon as they scored, Bournemouth went, okay, let's score another one and get this over and done with.

"I feel really bad for Southampton fans. I sat around a lot of them today, having a lot of talk, but I just don't see where they're going to get anything from.

"There's nothing here now to build. And again, I'm not calling for the manager to be sacked because that's not right, but I'll put a hundred quid on it that he's not a manager by the end of the season."
