However, at least two assists at Anfield would see Salah set a new outright record for the current Premier League leaders, and he is on track to register more in one season than any player for any club.

With 14 assists on his record from 24 Premier League games this season, Salah averages 0.58 assists per game, meaning that he would end the season with 22 assists from a full 38 matches.

That total would represent an unprecedented total in the Premier League, where the current single-season assist record is jointly-held by Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Henry set up 20 goals in the 2002-03 campaign, before De Bruyne matched the Frenchman's total with 20 assists of his own in the 2019-20 season, although neither of their teams won the league that year.

However, Liverpool entered the weekend with a healthy seven-point lead over Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table, and their closest challengers are now in the midst of an attacking injury crisis.

Could Salah record the Premier League's best-ever individual season?

While Salah is on course to register 22 assists at his current rate, the 32-year-old has already struck that exact number of Premier League goals in 2024-25 as he leads the way in the Golden Boot race.

Registering 0.91 goals per game, Salah would end the season with 34 goals alongside his 22 assists if he carries on performing in the same vein, a staggering total of 56 direct involvements.

That astronomical total would represent the best-ever individual Premier League season from a statistical standpoint, as the current record for goal involvements in a single campaign is 47.

The aforementioned Cole achieved that figure in the 1993-94 season before Alan Shearer followed suit in 1994-95, and both of their 47-contribution campaigns came in 42-game seasons.

The all-time record for a 38-match campaign is 44, shared by 2002-03 Henry and 2022-23 Erling Haaland, while Luis Suarez registered 43 during the 2013-14 season with Liverpool.
