Saka makes Arsenal trophy pledge after convincing North London derby victory

Bukayo Saka believes Arsenal will win trophies if they can repeat their convincing North London derby win.

The Gunners beat Tottenham 3-1 at the Emirates and have turned their Premier League form around to win their last three games after previously suffering as many losses to start the season.

Saka netted his side's third goal after setting up Emile Smith Rowe's opener before Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang doubled their tally.

The 20-year-old and his fellow academy graduate, Smith Rowe, have been shining lights during a dark period for Arsenal in recent months.

But he has confidence in his team-mates that they will lift silverware if they apply themselves in the same manner as Sunday's victory and produce performances of the same ilk.

"We can achieve anything, no matter what age. With age comes experience but we have a lot of experience in this squad anyway which helps us," Saka said post-match.

"We have a lot of quality and enough experience to achieve a lot. We're going to take it game by game but if we play like this we have enough quality to win trophies."

He went on to explain how the magnitude of the fixture, which draws them level on nine points with Spurs after six league matches and above them on goal difference, gave Arsenal extra impetus to win.

"We all wanted it. We knew how much the game meant to the fans, we knew how much the game meant to us," Saka continued.

"And of course to build winning momentum — we've won three games in a row — is really good for us. We're getting closer as a team, getting more team spirit, so things are looking good.

"If we play like that all the time, we have a strong chance of doing well this season and winning some trophies. This is one game, we have to do it again the next week and the next week," he added.

"We get into a lot of good situations but we need to score more goals. Yesterday, we were a lot more clinical, so we're happy with that but we've got to do it consistently."

Team-mate Smith Rowe labelled it 'the best day of his life' and Saka acknowledged the importance of scoring in a North London derby, having both been at the club's Hale End Academy since a young age (10 and seven respectively).

"We spoke about this, about how massive it would feel to score in a north London derby," he revealed.

"When Emile scored the first goal, I looked him at him and we remembered the conversation. When I scored, he looked at me again, so it's a very, very special feeling for both of us. I'm so happy we could do it together."

Manager Mikel Arteta had praise for his whole team and particularly 'ESR' when asked about him post-match.

"Well he has scored two in the last two games. It's great," Arteta responded, before noting Aubameyang's contribution. "I think today was a great example of the senior players showing big leadership standing up for the team. The likes of Auba scoring a goal.

"And then two academy players who have been raised and developed within our system coming in a big derby and doing what they've done - scoring two goals."
