Ryan Reynolds' investments and £109m fortune amid Wrexham Premier League dream

mirror.co.uk, 1 November 2021, 15:42

He's one of the most popular actors on the planet and now he's become immersed in the crazy world of football.

Earlier this year Ryan Reynolds, alongside fellow Hollywood A-lister Rob McElhenney, bought non-league side Wrexham.

The duo invested £2million up front and are set to plough even more funds into the Welsh club over the next few years. They have big plans for the Dragons, even talking about a tilt at the Premier League during their official unveiling last month.

As most owners will know, running football clubs can be an expensive business.

Luckily, Wrexham have a co-owner in Reynolds who is not only a successful actor but has proved to be a sage businessman.

Can Reynolds and McElhenney lead Wrexham all the way to the Premier League? Let us know in the comments section

The 45-year-old, who has had success after featuring in numerous films such as Deadpool and Safe House, is said to have doubled his total net worth from $75million to $150m in the space of the past five years.

He was the second-highest paid actor in 2020 - behind only Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

He has his finger in plenty of pies away from acting, including a gin business and a budget-friendly mobile phone company.

Wrexham's co-owner Ryan Reynolds is not only a successful actor but a savvy businessman

Speaking about his approach to acting, business and life in general he once said: "I have a discipline that has served me very well in my career and in my personal life… and that's gotten stronger as I've gotten older.

"I've always felt if I don't just have a natural knack for it, I will just out-discipline the competition if I have to - work harder than anybody else."

Reynolds branched outside of acting in 2018 when he became a shareholder in Aviation American Gin.

Last year Drinks giant Diageo bought the brand along with three other spirits as part of a $610m deal. Part of the deal sees Reynolds remain the face of the brand's TV advertising.

The Vancouver actor also has an ownership stake in Mint Mobile, a wireless service provider.

Reynolds currently has a 20 to 25 per cent stake in the prepaid mobile company, which he's also the face of.

After investing in the company two years, he told TechCrunch, "I've just sort of seen how most celebrities are doing very, very well.

"We're generally hocking or getting behind or investing in luxury and aspirational items and projects," explaining that he wanted to invest in something "hyper practical" instead.

And a nice boost to his coffers is due this year from the day job with Reynolds poised to earn £15million from an upcoming Netflix film entitle 'Red Notice'.

Despite spending rules limiting how much owners can invest in clubs, Wrexham fans can be sure that no expense will be spared as Reynolds and McElhenney look to get the club moving back up the league pyramid once more.
