Real Madrid saw their La Liga clash with Valencia, which had been scheduled for Saturday night, postponed due to the devastating floods in Spain, but Milan were in action on Saturday, recording a 1-0 win over Monza in Serie A.
Los Blancos have picked up six points from their three European matches this season to sit 12th in the Champions League table, while Milan are down in 25th spot, having only collected three points from their first three games.
Here, Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at the head-to-head record and previous meetings between the two sides ahead of their mouthwatering contest in the Spanish capital on Tuesday night.
Head-to-head record
Previous meetings: 15
Real Madrid wins: 6
Draws: 3
AC Milan wins: 6
Two of the biggest clubs in European football, Real Madrid and AC Milan have met on 15 occasions throughout history, and both have posted six wins, while there have also been three draws between the two sides.
The first ever meeting between the two teams took place in the semi-finals of the 1955-56 European Cup, with Real Madrid recording a 4-2 victory in the first leg, before Milan ran out 2-1 winners in the second leg.
The pair then famously met in the final of the 1957-58 European Cup, with Real Madrid winning the trophy courtesy of a 3-2 success over the Italian giants in Belgium; the victory handed Real Madrid a third European Cup in a row, with the great Alfredo Di Stefano among the goalscorers for Los Blancos, who are very much the kings of this competition, having won it on 15 occasions.
The two teams would then meet in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and round of 16 in the years to come, but their first-ever contest in the Champions League took place in November 2002, with Milan running out 1-0 winners in the group stage.
Each of the last six meetings between the teams have taken place in the group stage of the Champions League, while they have not actually locked horns since November 2010, when they played out a 2-2 draw in Milan.
The last contest between the two sides at Bernabeu came in October 2010, with Real Madrid recording a 2-0 victory courtesy of goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Ozil, with Ronaldinho, Andrea Pirlo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic among the Milan players.
Milan have only beaten Real Madrid once at Bernabeu, and that success came in the group stage of the 2009-10 competition, with Pirlo and Alexandre Pato (two) registering in a 3-2 victory for the Italian giants.
Three players have scored the most goals in this fixture, with Raul, Marco van Basten and Di Stefano all on three.
