Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic has conceded he grew up supporting Manchester United - comments that now make for interesting reading as the Red Devils register an interest.
It hasn't entirely worked out for the American international since he joined the Blues from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of just under £60million in 2019. While Pulisic has shown flashes of brilliance, he has failed to nail down a regular starting spot, particularly under current boss Thomas Tuchel.
As a result of his struggles in west London, a number of clubs from across the continent have declared an interest in taking the winger off of Chelsea's hands this summer. Newcastle, Atletico Madrid and Juventus are rumoured to all be keen on striking a deal.
However, the Athletic report that the 23-year-old's boyhood club United have now entered the race for his signature as part of a proposed loan deal. This would surely turn the forward's head considering his affection for Erik ten Hag's side.
Speaking in 2017 while still lighting up the Bundesliga, Pulisic confessed he harboured a lot of admiration for United and more specifically one club legend. "I was a big Manchester United fan when I was younger," Pulisic told ESPN. "I loved to watch Rooney. I wouldn't say I'm a similar player, though.
"I think his passion for the game is something you don't see much in players. That's what I loved about him."
The interest from Old Trafford comes at a time when Pulisic is growing increasingly frustrated over his lack of playing time at Chelsea, especially with the Qatar World Cup on the horizon.

The most expensive North American footballer of all time has failed to start in either of his club's two league games this term, instead being introduced from the bench for both. He did not make much of an impact against Everton or Tottenham respectively.
Pulisic is reported to favour a switch to United over any of his other potential suitors and could be permitted to join them considering Tuchel seemingly has no problem with letting attackers leave this summer. Timo Werner has returned to RB Leipzig, while Romelu Lukaku has gone back to Inter Milan on loan just one season after his £97.5m switch to the Blues.
Despite the general consensus being he has underperformed, Pulisic has proven he can be a man for the big occasion with goals against the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid in a Champions League semi-final.
