'Oh god no' - Spurs fans terrified as NFL owner linked with buying club

Reports emerged that a billionaire American businessman was considering buying the club.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is a polarising figure Stateside.

On the one hand, he has left Manchester United and Real Madrid in the dust and created the world's first $10billion team.

Jones also won three Super Bowls and built a state-of-the-art stadium and training facility.

But, and here's where things may sound bitterly familiar for Spurs supporters, his last significant trophy came in 1995.

In another move straight from Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy's playbook, Jones' refusal to pay his top stars until the last minute is also a bone of contention.

Despite proudly boasting that the Cowboys have the sixth-best record in the NFL during his tenure, the 82-year-old just cannot assemble a team capable of going all the way.

It is little surprise one fan branded him the 'American Daniel Levy' in response to the report, while another simply exclaimed: "Oh god no."

"Is this some kind of PR strategy to make Daniel Levy seem like the positive in a comparison," joked a supporter.

"Well the Levy out crowd might get their wish. Only to find they jumped from frying pan to the fire," a fourth posted.

"Have Tottenham fans not suffered enough?" pleaded a fifth.

The report that Jones is in talks with Spurs owner Joe Lewis' ENIC Group came from podcaster PFT Commentator.

"Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' private jet and yacht are in London, as the 82-year-old engages in conversations with ENIC, with a view to a potentially purchasing Tottenham Hotspur Football Club," he posted on X.

Thankfully for Spurs fans, the report has not been stood up and there have been no confirmed sightings of Jones, his yacht, or his jet.

The Cowboys chief has endured a tricky season so far.

Fresh off signing a $240million contract extension in September, star quarterback Dak Prescott has since been ruled out for the season.

Jones' negotiating skills led to wide receiver CeeDee Lamb sitting out of training camp, before getting virtually everything he wanted when he eventually signed.

And his beloved $1.2billion AT&T Stadium has also come under fire due to a bizarre design flaw.

The megabucks mogul was keen to ensure the arena had a natural feel to it and succeeded a little too well as the sunlight caused Lamb to miss a simple touchdown catch in a key loss.

Jones' team are basically out of the running for the playoffs with a 5-7 record despite his insistence that they were "all-in" this season.

So it is probably a case of better the devil you know for Spurs as Ange Postecoglou looks to win a first trophy since 2008.

The Aussie has all-but guaranteed success in his second season and must now walk the walk.
