Most expensive Premier League deals ever as Rice takes second place behind Chelsea star

The Premier League has a new mega-money superstar, with Enzo Fernandez becoming the league's most expensive player ever.

Chelsea broke the British transfer record to sign World Cup winner Fernandez from Benfica for a fee of £106.5million on deadline day of the 2022/23 January window.

Manchester United had a long history of being the leading spenders in England and former star man Paul Pogba had been the top-flight's priciest player.

However, that all changed in the summer of 2021 when Manchester City bought Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.

But the Red Devils responded and splashed out again in 2022, landing Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax for £82million.

Chelsea then made Mykhailo Mudryk the joint-third most expensive deal in Premier League history after they spent £89m on the Shakhtar Donetsk forward earlier in 2022/23 January window.

Manchester City did hold the record after spending £100million on England maestro Grealish but the Blues continued their huge spending to take top spot.

Fernandez replaced Grealish in the history books and overtook a host of other mega-money deals done by the likes of Man United, Man City and Liverpool.

Arsenal's £105million signing of Declan Rice this summer made him the most expensive British player of all time but that failed to dethrone Fernandez in top spot.
