Mariano Diaz tells Real Madrid he wants to leave

Mariano Diaz has told Real Madrid that he is looking to leave the club in the summer transfer window.

After the striker's reluctance to leave Los Blancos last year, he finally appears ready to embark on a new adventure after an unsuccessful return to the club from Lyon in 2018.

In those four seasons, Mariano has played a total of 59 games, scoring seven goals. His importance in the team has not been what was expected when he returned for 21 million euros.

His constant injuries have not helped him either but, despite rarely getting into the team, he had always preferred to stay at Real Madrid despite having offers.

Real Madrid even sought a move to Rayo Vallecano with a higher salary than he was receiving, but the player preferred to stay at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

One season on and, seeing how little chance he was given by Carlo Ancelotti, he is now actively looking for a way out before the end of his contract that runs out in 2023.

A new striker may arrive

Mariano is now expected to leave, as are Luka Jovic and Borja Mayoral while Juanmi Latasa will remain between the reserve team and the first team. Therefore, there is a possibility that the board of directors will explore the option of reinforcing the forward line.

However, this signing has to comply with a series of guidelines: the most important is that he cannot be a non-EU player. With the current problem of obtaining a Spanish passport, Madrid have covered the three available places with Vinicius, Rodrygo and Eder Militao, something that prevents the arrival of players such as Gabriel Jesus.
