Despite frequent speculation regarding incomings at Old Trafford, only left-back Tyrell Malacia has made the switch to United during the current transfer window.
The centre-forward position had already been an area which required improvement before speculation arose regarding the future of Cristiano Ronaldo.
As it stands, it appears that the Portuguese superstar is more likely to remain at United rather than join one of several suggested clubs.
Nevertheless, according to Mediafootmarseille, the Premier League giants are contemplating whether to bring in Dembele to strengthen their options in the final third.
The Frenchman has featured in the top bracket for strikers in European football for a number of years with his stock having only risen since joining Lyon in 2018.
Although he endured a goalless stint during a brief period on loan at Atletico Madrid in 2020-21, the 26-year-old has netted 67 strikes from 143 appearances for Lyon.
While 22 of those strikes came during 2021-22, Lyon are not in a strong position when it comes to trying to retain the services of arguably their key player.
As well as Dembele possessing less than 12 months on his contract, Lyon also missed out on securing European football for next season.
On a positive note, Lyon have already added former Arsenal frontman Alexandre Lacazette to their list of attacking options, providing them with more scope to generate funds through Dembele's sale.
In recent days, it has been claimed that Southampton are ready to put forward a £10m bid for Dembele as Ralph Hasenhuttl continues the overhaul of his Saints squad.
However, if that fee proves to be acceptable with the Lyon hierarchy, offers from other clubs - many with continental pedigree - will almost certainly follow over the coming weeks.
As well as Ronaldo, United can also call upon the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to play down the middle of their attack.
Nevertheless, while Rashford may be used more frequently on the flank, Martial has just returned to United after a disappointing loan spell with Sevilla.
