Manchester United expiring contracts: Who is free to leave next summer and in 2026?

sportsmole.co.uk, 3 July 2024, 19:48
Manchester United have entered a new era under the leadership of new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who has taken control of the football department at Old Trafford.

The futures of a number of first-team players are currently unclear, with big changes planned, as the club attempt to return to former glories.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at the Man United players whose contracts either expire next summer or in June 2026.

Which Man United players are out of contract next summer?

Scott McTominay

Age: 27

Position: Central midfielder

Transfer value: £27.3m

Joined: Academy graduate

Joining fee: N/A

Man United appearances: 252

Man United goals: 29

Club Honours

FA Cup (1): 2023-24

EFL Cup (1): 2022-23

McTominay was linked with a move away from Man United in the summer of 2023, but he ultimately remained at Old Trafford and was an important player for the club during the 2023-24 campaign.

The Scotland international scored 10 times and registered three assists in 43 appearances for the Red Devils last term, and he could now be handed a new contract, although his current deal includes the option of a 12-month extension.

Mason Greenwood

Age: 22

Position: Right-sided attacker

Transfer value: £21.1m

Joined: Academy graduate

Joining fee: N/A

Man United appearances: 129

Man United goals: 35

Greenwood is back at Old Trafford after a loan spell at Getafe during the 2023-24 campaign.

However, the Englishman is unlikely to play for the Red Devils again, with a departure on a permanent basis this summer expected to be the outcome to his situation.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Age: 26

Position: Right-back

Transfer value: £17m

Joined: July 1, 2019

Joining fee: £50m

Man United appearances: 190

Man United goals: 2

Club Honours

FA Cup (1): 2023-24

EFL Cup (1): 2022-23

Wan-Bissaka made 30 appearances for Man United during the 2023-24 campaign, with the defender benefitting from the team's injury problems.

The 26-year-old is being linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, though, and it is thought that he could return to Crystal Palace during the upcoming market.

Harry Maguire

Age: 31

Position: Centre-back

Transfer value: £15.3m

Joined: August 5, 2019

Joining fee: £80m

Man United appearances: 206

Man United goals: 11

Club Honours

EFL Cup (1): 2022-23

FA Cup (1): 2023-24

Maguire was thought to be surplus to requirements at Old Trafford last summer, but he managed to win back the trust of head coach Erik ten Hag during the 2023-24 campaign.

The centre-back is unlikely to leave the Red Devils this summer unless a large offer arrives, and the 31-year-old could even potentially be offered a contract extension by the club, although his current deal has a clause which can be activated to take him until June 2026.

Amad Diallo

Age: 21

Position: Right winger

Transfer value: £15.3m

Joined: January 2, 2021

Joining fee: £37m

Man United appearances: 21

Man United goals: 3

Club Honours

FA Cup (1): 2023-24

Scottish Cup (1): 2021-22

Diallo ended the 2023-24 campaign with 12 appearances to his name, scoring twice and providing one assist, with the 21-year-old showing his potential late in the season.

The Ivorian is expected to be a part of the first-team squad at Old Trafford for next term, and his contract also includes a clause which can be activated to take him until June 2026.

Victor Lindelof

Age: 29

Position: Centre-back

Transfer value: £12.8m

Joined: July 1, 2017

Joining fee: £31m

Man United appearances: 259

Man United goals: 4

Club Honours

Taca da Liga (1): 2015-16

Supertaca Candido de Oliveira (1): 2016

FA Cup (1): 2023-24

EFL Cup (1): 2022-23

Lindelof was restricted to just 28 appearances during the 2023-24 campaign due to injury, and the Sweden international is facing an uncertain future at the club.

The 29-year-old has made 259 appearances for the Red Devils since his arrival, but it is believed that the club are willing to listen to offers for him in the upcoming market.

Hannibal Mejbri

Age: 21

Position: Central midfielder

Transfer value: £7.6m

Joined: August 11, 2019

Joining fee: £4.2m

Man United appearances: 13

Man United goals: 1

Club Honours

FA Cup (1): 2023-24

Hannibal made 10 appearances for Man United last season, including five outings in the Premier League, but he spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Sevilla.

The Spanish outfit have turned down the chance to sign him on a permanent basis, though, so the midfielder is back at Old Trafford preparing for pre-season.

Christian Eriksen

Age: 32

Position: Central midfielder

Transfer value: £6.8m

Joined: July 15, 2022

Joining fee: Free transfer

Man United appearances: 72

Johan Cruyff Shield (1): 2013

Serie A (1): 2020-21

FA Cup (1): 2023-24

EFL Cup (1): 2022-23

Eriksen has proven to be a dependable performer for Man United since his arrival on a free transfer from Brentford, but he lost his starting role in midfield during the 2023-24 campaign.

The Denmark international is currently being linked with a move away from Old Trafford, and it is believed that he is keen to seek a transfer in order to secure regular football at this stage of his career.

Willy Kambwala

Age: 19

Joined: October 5, 2020

Joining fee: Undisclosed

Man United appearances: 10

Kambwala benefitted from injury problems to make 10 appearances for Man United during the 2023-24 campaign, with eight of those outings coming in the Premier League.

The 19-year-old is out of contract in the summer of 2025, but he is allegedly set to be offered a new deal, having impressed in his limited first-team action.

Facundo Pellistri

Age: 22

Position: Right-sided attacker

Pellistri is back at Old Trafford this summer after spending the second half of last season on loan at Granada.

The 22-year-old is yet to score in 24 first-team appearances for the Red Devils, and it remains to be seen whether he has a future at the club.

Donny van de Beek

Age: 27

KNVB Cup (1): 2018-19

Johan Cruyff Shield (1): 2019

Van de Beek is back at Old Trafford this summer, as Eintracht Frankfurt turned down the chance to sign him on a permanent basis after a loan spell in the second half of last season.

The midfielder has failed to show his best form for the Red Devils since arriving from Ajax.

Tom Heaton

Age: 38

Joining fee: Free transfer

Heaton has signed a new one-year contract at Old Trafford to take him until June 2025.

The 38-year-old will once again provide support to Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir next term.

Which Man United players are out of contract in June 2026?

EFL Cup (1): 2022-23

FA Cup (1): 2023-24

Fernandes has been an outstanding player for Man United since his arrival from Sporting in January 2020, but there is currently speculation surrounding his future.

Providing that the Portugal international stays at Old Trafford this summer, he could potentially be in line for a new long-term contract with the 20-time English champions.

Jadon Sancho

Age: 24

Position: Right-sided attacker

Transfer value: £25.4m

Joined: July 24, 2021

Sancho is back at Old Trafford after spending the second half of last season back at Borussia Dortmund.

However, due to his strained relationship with head coach Erik ten Hag, it is likely that the England international will be on the move during the current market.

Casemiro

FIFA Club World Cup (3): 2016, 2017, 2018

EFL Cup (1): 2022-23

FA Cup (1): 2023-24

Casemiro enjoyed an impressive 2022-23 campaign at Man United after arriving from Real Madrid.

However, the midfielder struggled to show his best form last term, and it has been claimed that the Brazilian could make the move to Saudi Arabia this summer.

Tyrell Malacia

Age: 24
