Kalvin Phillips 'to have Man City medical on Friday' as exit from Leeds nears

It's widely reported City have agreed pay £42million with potential bonuses valuing £3m.

It was understood Phillips was away on holiday until July 4, however, Sky Sports reports that the player will begin his medical on July 1.

It's bad news for Leeds supporters who will be preparing to lose one of their star men.

However there is a silver lining with City midfielder Darko Gyabi potentially heading to Elland Road in a £5million deal, although that move is separate to the Phillips move.

Phillips has been a irreplaceable for Leeds during the last four years after being handed a key role under former manager Marcelo Bielsa.

Reinvented as a deep-lying midfieder the 26-year-old has made 233 appearances for the Whites in total and helped them to secure promotion from the Championship in 2020.

With his help, they have been able to retain their top flight status in the last two seasons.

A move to City would undoubtedly be a big step in Phillips' career.

But he's used to playing at an elite level having starred for England during their run to the final of Euro 2020.

For Pep Guardiola's side, a move for the Leeds star is another huge step forward.

Having already completed a deal to sign Erling Haaland for £51million, the Premier League champions are determined to kick on and retain their crown again this term.

With added strength and depth in the squad, City will also be hoping that Phillips can aid their cause as they target an improved run in the Champions League as well.
