James Rodriguez loses his head and chases referee before red card

James Rodriguez lost his cool after he was given his marching orders for Al-Rayyan as he chased the referee to protest the decision.

The Colombian was making his third appearance for the Qatar club since leaving Everton as his side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Al-Arabi on Saturday.

And the former Real Madrid man is making the headlines for all the wrong reasons as his furious outburst at the whistler led to his dismissal.

The Colombian was bizarrely awarded a yellow card despite being on the receiving end of a foul.

Rodriguez was taken out by an Al-Arabi defender on the edge of the area which promoted a heated melee between both sets of players, while the 30-year-old was writhing on the ground.

And as he got back up to his feet and prepared to take the free-kick, the ref dished out a yellow card despite seemingly staying well clear of the altercation.

This prompted an angry reaction from Rodriguez as he squared up to the referee and even started chasing him to protest his innocence.

Rodriguez was given a second yellow card, resulting in a red, as a result as he sarcastically applauded the official as he walked off the field.

The playmaker could face disciplinary action for his actions as his career continues on a downward trajectory.

Rodriguez switched the Spanish capital for Merseyside in the summer of 2020 to link up with Carlo Ancelotti, but his spell with the Toffees was hampered with injuries, despite a promising start.

He then made the surprise move overseas to Qatar following Ancelotti's departure to Madrid after he was frozen out of Rafa Benitez's squad following the Spaniard's appointment as the new Everton boss.

Rodriguez scored his first goal for Al-Rayyan last week in a 4-2 victory over Al-Sailiya, after suffering a nightmare debut, but could be out of action for some time as he awaits his punishment.
