Henderson's outburst suggests underlying problems with Liverpool teammates

mirror.co.uk, 31 October 2021, 11:56

Jordan Henderson's argument with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlian epitomised Liverpool's frustrations against Brighton.

The Reds dropped two points at Anfield on Saturday as they failed to build on their emphatic win over Manchester United last weekend.

What is even more infuriating for the Reds is that were 2-0 up after 25 minutes thanks to goals from the Liverpool skipper and Sadio Mane.

But the Seagulls showed great character to get back into the match as strikes from Enock Mwepu and Leandro Trossard secured an unlikely 2-2 draw.

From a Liverpool opportunity, it's a missed opportunity as Manchester City lost to Crystal Palace with Chelsea now three points clear at the Premier League summit with a convincing 3-0 victory over Newcastle.

And tempers flared in the second half in the Liverpool camp as Henderson was seen getting into an argument with Oxlade-Chamberlain, who replaced the injured Naby Keita in the first half.

There was a breakdown in communication in the build-up to Trossard's equaliser which saw the pair share a few choice words with one another.

Liverpool were not on the same wavelength with a number of below-par performances as Keita's injury compounded the poor result.

After a slow start to his Liverpool career, the playmaker has started to show some signs of life with a series of impressive displays.

He has shown an eye for goal too with an unbelievable volley against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, before getting the ball rolling at Old Trafford in Liverpool's 5-0 rout of Man United with a smart finish past David de Gea.

Keita was stretchered off against the Red Devils after a high challenge from Paul Pogba who was sent off.

The injury wasn't as bad as first feared, however, and the former RB Leipzig man recovered in time to be included in the line-up against Brighton.

But that feeling as though Liverpool got away with one didn't last long as he went to ground clutching his right leg and was forced off after 20 minutes on Saturday.

Liverpool's injuries in midfield with Fabinho, James Milner and Thiago all on the sidelines.

Jurgen Klopp provided an update on their health ahead of Saturday's clash.

He said: "With Fabinho, it doesn't look too good, it's a bit more complicated but not too complicated but complicated enough to keep him out.

"I'll still wait for the last news but he was not in team training yet, which is never a good sign.

"Thiago was back in team training for the first time but it doesn't mean he's available to play a football game unfortunately.

"So we will see what we do with him but he's closer than he was last week."
