The Turkish giants clawed their way back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 against Erik ten Hag's side in a Champions League thriller in rain-soaked Istanbul.
United took a deserved two-goal lead following strikes from Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes.
Former Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech netted twice for the hosts either side of Scott McTominay's effort but United inexplicably threw away their lead when substitute Kerem Akturkoglu levelled 19-minutes from time.
The result means United remain bottom of the group heading into their final group stage fixture against already-qualified Bayern Munich and staring a premature exit from European competition in the face.
Ferdinand was on co-commentary duties for TNT Sports for the game in Istanbul and a video posted by the broadcaster's social media team showed the former United defender's reaction to each goal scored on the night.

As expected, Ferdinand expressed his delight as United raced into an early advantage but like many of the club's supporters, was left frustrated by the manner in which the Red Devils conceded.
Ferdinand's frustrations told its own story after Akturkoglu drilled home Galatasaray's equaliser.
The former England international appeared shell shocked with his hand on his head whilst sitting in his seat at the commentary desk.
His reaction was one likely to have been mimicked by the travelling United fans who could now see their European hopes extinguished in two weeks' time.

Speaking to TNT Sport at full time, Ferdinand claims immaturity was the catalyst behind United's collapse.
"In the first half I was asking them to be uncomfortable and enjoy sometimes being penned back on the edge of your box, bank of four and a bank of five and not allowing a big gap between the midfield and the defenders. They were doing that.
"But it's about doing that consistently, doing that rep after rep after rep. And that's where I think sometimes there's maybe a little bit of immaturity, maybe boredom creeps in and one jumps out and then they go 'Oh, we're out of shape', and they look very open at those times."
United's hopes of qualifying for the round-of-16 are now out of their own hands. Ten Hag's side must beat Bayern at Old Trafford and hope FC Copenhagen draw with Galatasaray, to ensure safe passage to the knockout stages in February.
