Coady plays down World Cup distraction in Premier League after Ramsdale admission

The centre-back has told talkSPORT that giving his all for Everton is 'the most important thing' despite the looming trip to Qatar.

The defender was named in Gareth Southgate's 26-man England squad for the tournament, that gets underway on November 20.

Of course there's the small matter of a final round of Premier League fixtures this weekend for players to think about before then.

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale admitted to talkSPORT after his call-up to the England team that it will be 'difficult' to focus, with the Three Lions set to meet up on Monday morning immediately after league action stops.

"This is the difficult part - obviously we've had such a high today getting told you're in the squad, but we've now got to focus on Saturday," he told Drivetime.

"Obviously we want to win the game, and hopefully we'll be top before the break, but the next thing will be meeting up on Monday morning and then we fly to Qatar on Tuesday.

"So with this sort of break there's not much time to prepare for the first game, so I think it's sort of all-go as soon as we meet up on the Monday morning."

However, Coady has insisted he won't think about Qatar until after the weekend, with Everton facing a crunch clash with Bournemouth as 16th take on 17th at the Vitality Stadium.

He told talkSPORT Breakfast: "This is why we play football.

"I play for Everton Football Club and I give the best of myself every single day for the football club and the most important thing for me, and every other player in the England squad will say the same thing, that the most important thing at the moment are the games this weekend.

"I think it's a massive game, a huge game for us. We've spoken about it all week and there's no way we can go into that game thinking of anything else and performing well against Bournemouth and getting a result.

"If anybody tells you any different I don't think it's the right way to look at it as the most important thing is a massive game tomorrow and then we can look forward to what's coming."

Receiving news of a World Cup call-up is one of the greatest joys a player can experience, and according to the 29-year-old it was one of the best messages he's ever received.

"We train at 11am so when I came in, I had a text message on my phone from one of the girls at the FA who looks after the team saying that I'd been selected," Coady revealed.

"I messaged her back saying it was the best message I'd ever received!

"It was one where you come in and you've got a massive smile on your face and it's so, so exciting.

"I think it's exciting for everybody including yourselves, the supporters and especially for us."
