Lewandowski capped his 100th UEFA Champions League appearance in style on Tuesday with a hat-trick in the 5-2 win over Benfica that saw Bayern through to the competition's knockout stage. It was a repeat of the score that ensured the champions picked up three points last weekend at Union Berlin. The Ballon d'Or nominee was on target 'only' twice that day, while Thomas Müller starred with three assists and a goal to ensure the Munich side remain a point clear of rivals Borussia Dortmund at the top - and only three ahead of Freiburg in third. Julian Nagelsmann returned to the touchline following illness during the week and made a number of changes to rotate his side, including resting Müller. The Raumdeuter will return, while the form of Leroy Sane means it's a toss-up between Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman. Niklas Süle is also expected to return in defence after he and Lucas Hernandez sat out the midweek action.
Bayern may lead the way but it's still Freiburg who hold the status as the Bundesliga's only unbeaten team this season. It's a remarkable feat for a club their size, also sitting five points clear of fourth place. Formerly on the books at Bayern, Jeong has proven a revelation for the Black Forest side, scoring three times for Christian Streich's team, who takes charge of his 300th Bundesliga game with the club as he approaches 10 years at the helm. He's moulded his team into the league's meanest defence, and they will face the ultimate test of that credential at the Allianz Arena. The visitors have a stable line-up, but won't be able to call upon the services of another man familiar with Munich, as Freiburg club record goalscorer and the Bundesliga's top-scoring substitute Nils Petersen is out with a knee injury.
Match stats
Lewandowski has scored 19 times in 18 games against Freiburg, including in each of the last five. His most recent on Matchday 33 of last season saw him equal Gerd Müller's historic 40-goal record.
Bayern's current Müller once again leads the league's assist chart with seven, having set up three in last weekend's win in Berlin.
Bayern's total of 38 goals is the most a team has ever scored after 10 games of a Bundesliga season. It's also 57 matches going back to February 2020 since they drew a blank in the league.
Freiburg's three-goal joint-top scorer Jeong left South Korea to join Bayern in 2018, making two senior appearances in Munich.
Freiburg are one of only four teams in Europe's top five leagues yet to lose this season. Of the previous 32 Bundesliga teams unbeaten after 10 games in the Bundesliga, 13 went on to be champions and 28 finished in the top four.
Streich is set to take charge of his 300th Bundesliga game (all with Freiburg). He's the oldest coach currently in the league at 56. Opposite number Nagelsmann is the youngest (34).
