Bayern Munich defender Hernandez is not paid €24m per season, agent claims

Bayern Munich defender Lucas Hernandez does not earn €24 million (£21m/$26m) per season as has been reported, his agent has claimed.

According to recent reports in the German media, the 24-year-old's wages have caused a disruption in Bayern's dressing room, with several of the club's stars feeling they deserve to earn more than Hernandez.

Hernandez joined Bayern from Atletico Madrid last summer in a club-record €80 million (£68m/$90m) deal, but the France international has yet to live up to his hefty price tag.

Hernandez has battled injuries through much of the now-paused 2019-20 season, making just 14 appearances in all competitions.

Though Hernandez was said to be on massive wages, the defender's agent has said his client makes far less than has been reported.

"What has been written is totally wrong," Manuel Garcia Quilon told Goal and SPOX.

"Lucas does not earn €24m, not before or after taxes. I don't know who came up with this idea that Lucas could earn that much. He definitely earns less than that. Maybe someone confused him with another player or someone wants to hurt him."

The reports stated Hernandez's salary had particularly irked goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, whose future at Bayern is up in the air with his contract set to expire in June 2021.

The German international shot-stopper has seen his starting role called into question with Bayern's signing of Alexander Nubel, with the up-and-coming Schalke goalkeeper set to arrive at the conclusion of the current season.

Though Nubel is expected to be second-choice initially, his presence could complicate any contract extension between Neuer and the Bundesliga champions.

Neuer is believed to want a new four-year contract, with Bayern instead looking to offer the 34-year-old a two-year deal.

"We have no comment on rumours. There is nothing new to report," Neuer's management team said when contacted by Goal and SPOX.

Another player whose massive wages are said to be causing disharmony in the club's dressing room is Philippe Coutinho, who is currently on loan from Barcelona.

The 27-year-old, though, may be departing the German champions at season's end, with Bayern unlikely to activate his €120m (£104m/$132m) purchase option.
