Bayern Munich chief makes confident Mane declaration amid Liverpool exit links

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has declared the club can sign whoever they want in the summer transfer window amid their links with Sadio Mane.

The Senegal international has been linked with a move away from Liverpool following their Champions League final defeat against Real Madrid. It has been reported he wants to leave the Reds and Bayern are understood to be interested in the 30-year-old.

Earlier this week, Mane suggested he will follow the wishes of his nation's fans by leaving the Reds. This would end a sparkling six-year stint on Merseyside during which he scored 120 goals in 269 matches.

Bayern are in pole position for the former Southampton star and Hainer discussed his side's potential swoop, telling German outlet BILD : "If we really want a player, we are able to get him, but he has to suit us."

It is poised to be busy summer for Bayern, who could also lose a number of players. Robert Lewandowski has been linked with Barcelona and may be set to leave the club after a trophy-laden spell in Bavaria.

Fabrizio Romano reported Lewandowski wants to join the Spanish giants but the deal could prove to be difficult with Bayern not willing to sell their star man. The Polish striker scored 50 goals in 46 games last season, averaging more than one goal a game - the best ratio in the 'top five' leagues of players who netted double figures.

However, Lewandowski still has a year left on his current contract at Bayern and Hainer was shocked that Lewandowski opened up about leaving amid interest from Barcelona. He also added that the German side are intending to keep him this summer.

Hainer said: "A contract is a contract! Where are we going if a player can end a contract prematurely while we as a club would have to pay him in full up to the last day of the term? I was a bit surprised that Robert chose to go public, I wouldn't have done it in his place.

"Bayern is a club that treats its players very well, that does everything to enable them to perform at their best. And I have to say, appreciation is not a one-way street!"

"We're in the fortunate position that we don't have any financial difficulties," he added. "We want to have the best players and Robert is one of the best. That's why I'm confident that he'll be with us again next season. Robert is a full professional, he wants to play football."
