Salah told there is space in new look Barca attack when contract expires next year

The Egyptian superstar still hasn't signed a new contract with the club, despite it expiring in just 12 months' time.

And it's believed interest from Barcelona is one of the main reasons why he is yet to sign a new deal, despite telling close friends a few months ago that he was ready to extend his stay at the club.

The Mirror are reporting the Spanish side are ready to start revamping their squad after a disappointing few seasons, which coincides with some financial difficulties at the Nou Camp.

It saw their star man Lionel Messi leave the club to join Paris Saint-Germain last season, and could lead to the departures of Ousmane Dembele and Frenkie de Jong this summer.

But, after a £235million naming rights deal with audio streaming platform Spotify, the Spanish giants are ready to build a squad capable of challenging for La Liga and the Champions League again.

And Salah could be at the heart of that after another incredible season for Liverpool, where he finished as the top scorer and recorded most assists in the division.

He has confirmed he will be at the club next season but, beyond that, his future is unclear.

Salah said after the Champions League final: "I don't want to talk about the contract now, I'm staying next season for sure, that's clear."

Liverpool will want to avoid losing both Salah and Sadio Mane - who looks set to leave the club for Bayern Munich this summer - on the cheap or, even worse, for nothing next year.

But perhaps the lure of signing for Barcelona has returned, after a difficult couple of seasons for the Catalan giants, which has seen them finish second and third, and way behind rivals Real Madrid.

Barca manager Xavi is also said to be confident of pulling off the signing of Bayern Munich goalscorer Robert Lewandowski and has spoken to Wolves man Ruben Neves.
