Arteta's stance on Arsenal's busy January transfer plans amid Greenwood links

Arsenal are looking to add attacking reinforcements with the futures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe up in the air with Mason Greenwood a rumoured target

Mikel Arteta predicts a busy January transfer window as his rebuild continues at the Emirates.

The Gunners spent almost £150million in the summer as they signed the likes of Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale and Martin Odegaard - investments that have paid off so far.

The north Londoners enter the festive period inside the top four after their 2-0 win over West Ham on Wednesday night.

Arteta's men are hoping to build on that momentum to secure a Champions League place by the end of the season and they're willing to dip into the market once again to help facilitate that push.

Arsenal are expected to be on the lookout for a striker and a winger with the futures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe up in the air.

Aubameyang is currently out of the squad after he was stripped of his captaincy and could be heading for an exit next month.

Lacazette has impressed in his place wearing the skipper's armband, but the Frenchman is still to sign a contract extension and is set to leave as a free agent in the summer.

Pepe has also been frozen out of the side in recent weeks as the £72million signing from Lille continues to underwhelm Arteta.

The Gunners have been linked with some serious talent ahead of the upcoming window, however, including Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic.

Another name is Mason Greenwood who is reportedly unsettled at Manchester United.

El Nacional claims he is 'upset' with his lack of playing time under Ralf Rangnick after being a regular under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 20-year-old's frustration stems from Cristiano Ronaldo always being the first name on the teamsheet and his growing influence in the dressing room.

The report states Greenwood is looking into the possibility of leaving Old Trafford, as a result, with Arsenal, Juventus and Barcelona linked with the rising star.

Arteta refused to name specific individuals when asked what the club's plans are for January, but he admitted there is "a lot to be done" in regards to both buying and selling.

The Spaniard hopes to add reinforcements if the right opportunity presents itself, but admits players with 'uncertain futures' could be going in the other direction too.

He said: "We are in discussions. We have talks every week about it, how we can improve the team, and what things can happen in the January transfer window that can affect our squad.

"As you know, we have certain players with a little bit of uncertainty in the summer so we have to plan what's going to happen now and what's going to happen in the summer.

"A lot has to be done, we know and we don't expect big things to be happening, but we need to be very alert in the market to see if we can improve the team.

"We have to be prepared because things can happen and injuries can arise in this period of the season and you have to be prepared and planned."
