Zidane's vision for Man Utd perfectly aligns with Solskjaer decision

Manchester United have reportedly approached former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane about taking the Old Trafford job as pressure mounts on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Zinedine Zidane is not 'desperate' to return to management midway through the season which perfectly aligns with Manchester United's plans for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Red Devils have reportedly approached the former Real Madrid boss about taking the Old Trafford job as pressure mounts on the Norwegian, according to the Sunday Times.

It's been widely reported that Man United's preference is to keep Solskjaer in place until at least the end of the season, however, unless a top-four finish is put in jeopardy.

In that case, the club could consider replacing him before then, but they are aware of how difficult it is to get their top targets while the season is still ongoing.

Should Manchester United wait until the summer for Zinedine Zidane? Comment below

Zidane is currently out of work after leaving Madrid in the summer but isn't keen on accepting a proposal from United, or any other club, as taking on a job before the season finishes does not appeal to him.

He would rather join a club in the summer where he can get a pre-season under his belt to prepare his team for the upcoming campaign, as well as the transfer window to put his own stamp on things right away.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers is another name in the frame to succeed Solskjaer, but he also would be difficult to sign mid-season.

All signs point to United giving Solskjaer until the remainder of the campaign unless it completely unravels.

However, if that scenario does play out, ESPN claims United will consider appointing a manager in the short term, from now until the end of the season.

And it's claimed former RB Leipzig boss Ralf Rangnick, who now has a senior role at Lokomotiv Moscow, fits the bill after impressing Ed Woodward during informal meetings.

That decision would still give United the ability to go after Zidane or Rodgers in the summer.

Gary Neville believes his former club will stick by Solskjaer until the end of the season and then hit the reset button.

He told Sky Sports: "It's not a board that has experience of winning trophies. You look right through to recruitment, the CEO or decision-makers - none of them have had success in winning titles. There's an element of not knowing what to do.

"They will be very unsure what to do because in the past that same group of people have sacked managers after eight months in David Moyes, they sacked a manager after winning the FA Cup, they sacked Mourinho after giving him a new contract and not backing him in the transfer market. I suspect a real yo-yo in their minds and they haven't got the experience to deal with it.

"Ed Woodward leaves the club in a month apparently, who's going to take over? They haven't got the football experience and there's not as good as Man City and Liverpool off the pitch either.

"Ole is a function of what's happening in the club and my view at the moment is a new manager could come in and end up the exact same that's why I think United have to resurrect this season and then re-set at this point."
