Wrexham star takes savage swipe at rival fans in X-rated social media post

talksport.com, 9 March 2025, 11:15
James McClean took a savage swipe at Rotherham fans after Wrexham beat them 1-0 on Saturday.

Those three points closed the gap on the automatic League One play-off places and the club went online to have a jab at the away fans.

The 35-year-old on Instagram posted a photo of himself celebrating which was captioned: "Rotherham fans stink of p***, came to the racecourse and got dismissed."

Three points were secured thanks to January signings Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez.

The latter headed down the ball from a long goal kick into the path of Smith who neatly tucked the ball under an onrushing Dillon Phillips.

Wrexham sit third in League One, level on points with second place Wycombe Wanderers, 11 points behind leaders Birmingham City.

The Welsh club last season secured back-to-back promotions to League One and are now on the brink of a third successive rise.

It is a dream situation for owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney who bought the club for about £2 million.

Now it is worth 50 times more four years later.

It is a race for promotion that is heating up as Wycombe are set to host Wrexham Saturday 15 March.

This is not the first time McClean has landed himself in hot water this year.

In January, he insulted Shrewsbury fans, calling their town a 'cesspit of inbreds' after a fierce FA Cup third round tie.

A few days before he crashed his car but luckily walked away with minor injuries.

Previously he refused to wear a poppy for Remembrance Day because in his own words 'it stands for all the conflicts that Britain has been involved in'.

He continued: "Because of the history where I come from in Derry, I cannot wear something that represents that."

McClean has played for 104 times for the Republic of Ireland.

The Irishman has had an entertaining career playing for Wigan Athletic, West Bromwich Albion, Stoke City (all clubs he hit over 100 appearances), Sunderland and Derry City.

An 18-year career that has seen his play at every level from the Premier League down to the League Two.
