Kruse was one of the surprise movers during the winter transfer window, the former Germany international leaving Union Berlin in favour of a return to the club where he scored nine goals in 43 competitive games in 2015/16. The 33-year-old had been enjoying another fine season in the final third, contributing five goals and as many assists to Union's surprise tilt at a top-four finish. Needless to say, Florian Kohfeldt will be hoping the player that served him so well at Werder Bremen can keep up the good work. The Wolves are winless in their last nine Bundesliga matches, losing seven, and have plummeted to within two points of the bottom three as a result. Striker Wout Weghorst has left the club, while joint-top scorer Lukas Nmecha remains on the sidelines, so there's every chance new arrival Jonas Wind will be handed his debut alongside Kruse in attack. The Denmark international scored 11 goals in 27 games for Copenhagen this season, prior to making the switch.
Fürth have been making moves of their own, with Sweden international goalkeeper Andreas Linde joining the club from Molde. He's set to slot straight in as Stefan Leitl's No.1 as the Clover Leaves attempt to pull off a great relegation escape. The promoted outfit appeared dead and buried heading into December, but a run of nine points from the last 18 on offer gives them a glimmer of hope. Unbeaten in their last four, Greuther have cut the gap on second-bottom VfB Stuttgart to eight points, with Augsburg only a point better off in the relegation play-off spot. Unsurprisingly, with the exception of Sascha Burchert making way for Linde, Leitl is expected to stick with the same side that beat Mainz 2-1 prior to the January mini break. That means a ninth straight start for former Bayern Munich youngster Timothy Tillman, in behind the budding attacking trio of Germany U21 international Jamie Leweling, Jeremy Dudziak - who had a hand in both goals against Mainz - and veteran striker Branimir Hrgota.
Match stats
Kruse recorded six goals and eight assists in 32 Bundesliga outings for the Wolves in 2015/16, followed by 17 goals and 22 assists in just shy of two full seasons under Kohfeldt at Bremen.
Wolfsburg are without a win in 11 games, with 13 the ignominous club record to avoid (2009/10). They have already equalled a club record of failing to score in their past four Bundesliga games.
When these sides met in the reverse fixture, Wolfsburg were top of the Bundesliga and the only team yet to drop points. Fürth have been bottom ever since that game.
However, for the first time in their history, the Clover Leaves have now gone four Bundesliga games unbeaten.
These are the two Bundesliga clubs who have scored the fewest goals this season, with just 17 each.
Leweling and Hrgota have split eight of Fürth's total haul (four goals apiece).
