Wilshere offered fresh route back in to football after training with Arsenal

Ex- Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere could be offered the chance to revive his flatlining career with Brazilian outfit Fortaleza, who are gearing up for their Copa Libertadores debut.

The former England international was once tipped for great things after sealing his place as a first-team regular for the Gunners while still a teenager, but persistent injuries ravaged what promised to be a fantastic career.

Those at the top of the Fortaleza hierarchy are reportedly looking to make a number of high-profile foreign signings, with O Povo claiming the former Emirates fan favourite is high on their transfer wish-list.

Without a club, Wilshere would cost the Brazilian side nothing more than his wages, though given he is yet to try his hand at playing abroad the 29-year-old may need some persuading.

Wilshere's last playing contract came at Bournemouth, who opted against renewing his contract come the end of last season.

Since then, the former teen sensation has been back at Arsenal's London Colney training ground, which originally sparked speculation over the playmaker potentially donning the famous red and white shirt once more.

The ex-West Ham United midfielder was also touted with a potential switch to David Beckham's Inter Miami side before the rumours surrounding a Brazil move started to circulate.

Fortaleza will be participating in their first-ever Copa Libertadores after finishing fourth in last season's Campeonato and want a squad worthy of their place in the competition.

As a result, high-profile foreign players are wanted as a means of raising their profile before they take on some of the biggest club sides in South America.

Wilshere's previous Premier League and Champions League experience makes him a more than suitable candidate.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been nothing but complimentary of his former Gunners teammate, adding further fuel to the rumours already doing the rounds that he could re-join the club.

Earlier this month, the Spaniard discussed Wilshere's return, explaining: "First of all it's great to have him around because he adds this special feeling to the club.

"His talent is unquestionable, I think you've heard some players say he's the best in training. It's up to him the next step in his career and we're here to support that.

However, pressed on a potential return to playing in Arsenal colours for Wilshere and Arteta claimed "That's a different story".

Wilshere spent a decade in north London as an Arsenal first-team player, making just 197 appearances in 10 years due to his fitness struggles.
